Maximising the benefits of desalinated seawater supply networks for agricultural sustainability

Amid the ongoing water/food crisis, a relevant and perhaps crucial question is, “How practical and, more importantly, sustainable is it to tap into seawater desalination technology to meet the ever-increasing demands of irrigated agriculture?” This is going to be the theme of our project to explore this possibility from different angles, ranging from environmental to agronomic and socioeconomic concerns. We also tend to explore our potential research idea on how to tangibly evaluate this premise on a case study in Chile.
